It is, at best, a distant #2 to UVA. And VT is, at best, a distant #3


Pitt & PSU - and arguably Maryland - are bigger rivals to WVU than VT.

If VT had Tennessee on its schedule, WVU would be a distant #3.

It's important largely only to a faction of VT fans in SW VA and WVU fans in southern WV. It doesn't have near the meaning to fans in northern Virginia or northern West Virginia. And if you asked the rest of the country to name the top 200 football rivalries, I doubt it even makes the list.
